Guides & Equipment
The Alagnak is the culmination of two smaller rivers: one flowing from Kukaklek Lake and the other from Nonvianuk Lake. Both rivers flow for 10-15 miles until they join to create the Alagnak. The upper river splits many times into numerous small channels offering anglers hundreds of miles of private wadeable water. Professional Guides and Superior Equipment Katmai Lodge has the hardest working guides in the industry with the most comprehensive knowledge of the Alagnak River system. Licensed by the State of Alaska and the U.S Coast Guard, and certified in first aid and CPR, they spend their entire day at your shoulder teaching you techniques to ensure that YOUR experience is the best it can be.
When you need a break from the fishing action, you get to enjoy a hot shore lunch of your choice prepared by your guide on the river.
Our chief guide and lodge manager has been with Katmai for 23 seasons, with many senior guides returning year after year. Their knowledge of the Alagnak is unmatched. In addition, Katmai’s guest services/on-site manager has been part of the team for 15 seasons, and many of our support staff anywhere from 3-12 seasons.
The lodge staff is friendly and helpful and I have never felt lonely despite being there on my own. The meals are huge and yummy. Lunch on the boat is not just an average sandwich. These guys can cook! My guides have been real gentlemen, patiently teaching me how to cast and helping me through the fast-flowing sections of river. Their knowledge of the rivers is excellent. Their passion for fishing is clear, and they are generous in passing on advice and skills. In conclusion, it’s my idea of heaven. Thank you to all at Katmai Lodge." ~ Heather Marshall, South Gloucestershire, UK
