Trout Fishing at Katmai Lodge Alaska

The Fabled Alagnak River Braids

The best rainbow trout, grayling, and Arctic char fishing occurs in the fabled Alagnak River braids. It is here where the salmon of the Alagnak spawn and there exists a rich insect and sculpin population to offset the feed needed for rainbow trout. We never target salmon this far away from the ocean, as this is their spawning territory. It has always been our belief that if they made it this far, let them spawn so we can enjoy their offspring later in the life cycle – again in the tidewater.

Trout Fishing at its finest on the Wild and Scenic Alagnak River.

Your week-long adventure will have you fishing for hungry, aggressive trout that haven’t seen a fly for a long time. With very few guides operating on the river, your guide will get you to all the prime spots.

Room, meals, fishing license, and all equipment included with this limited opportunity to fish the season opener for wild Alaskan rainbow trout. Shore lunches provided every day and camp style dining for breakfast and dinner.  We have Simms waders and boots as well as quality fly rods and reels at your disposal.

Your guide will tie all the necessary flies for you and attend to your fishing needs for your entire stay.   Try your hand at tying your own in our fly-tying shop in the main lodge.  There is nothing like the adrenaline rush when you feel the jolt of a hit on your own fly.
